Downtown Associate Community Meeting

This is our first Downtown Associate Community  with the NC Main Street & Rural Planning Center. This meeting is open to the public.

I. 8:00-8:30 a.m. Breakfast/Networking

II. 8:30-9:30 a.m. Public Presentation about the Program

III. 9:30-9:40 a.m. Break

IV. 9:40-11:15 a.m. Facilitation
o Recognizing Community Asset Mapping Exercise with Core Working Group of Public and/or Public/Private Representatives
o Identifying Stakeholders
o Identifying Existing Partners

V. 11:15 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Review of Existing Materials with Downtown Associate Community Program Coordinator
– 2 Electronic copies for MS team (on thumbdrive);
– 1 hard copy and 1 electronic copy for local community.
o Proposed Schedule (Quarterly Visits)
o All Existing Planning Documents
 Past studies
 All Codes and Ordinances related to Downtown
 National Register or Study List documentation
 Maps of downtown district, National Register or local historic district, Municipal Service District, Downtown Overlay district, etc.
o All Organizational Documents (As appropriate)

 Bylaws or Rules of Procedure
 Federal Employer Identification Number
 Tax Exemption Status Documentation

VI. 12:00-1:00 p.m. Lunch

VII. 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Instruction on Next Steps with Downtown Associate Community Program Coordinator
o Pulling together materials from Section above as needed
o Using the Main Street Listserv
o Setting up the Downtown Office
o Joining the National Main Street Center
o Developing a Building & Business Inventory
 Building Data

 Building Photographs
 Parking Inventory
 Business Survey
 Business Data
 Goods & Services
 Special Notable current or historical information about the business
 Number of Employees
 Residential Data
 Downtown Amenities Database (Trees, hanging baskets, banners, etc)
o Developing a Contact Database for all property and business owners
o Developing a Stakeholder Contact Database/ Partners Contact Database
o Soliciting, obtaining and maintaining a resource database of historic photographs of downtown.
o Tracking the Economic Impact of Your Work in Downtown
o Tracking Volunteer Hours
o Developing a Calendar of existing downtown activities by month and by coordinating agency.

VIII. 3:00 p.m. NC Main Street Center staff leaves community and will return in 7-8 weeks.
